Can You Use Apple Home Keys If Your Device Battery Is Dead?
Yes, you can still use your Apple home key even if your device’s battery is depleted, thanks to Apple’s Power Reserve feature. This functionality allows you to tap to lock or unlock your smart lock for up to five hours after your device runs out of battery, as long as Express Mode is enabled for your home key.
How Power Reserve Works
Power Reserve is an Apple feature that provides limited functionality for certain services, such as home keys, even when your device battery is completely drained.
To use Power Reserve, Express Mode must be enabled for your home key in the Wallet app settings.

Device Compatibility: Power Reserve is a feature of Apple devices, and its availability depends on the device model and software version. This feature is not related to Schlage locks and does not affect the lock’s battery.
Lock Battery: The battery status of your Schlage lock is independent of your Apple device’s Power Reserve feature.
Alternative Access Options
If your Apple device is completely out of power and cannot use Power Reserve, you can still unlock your Schlage Encode Plus Smart Lock by:
Using the touchscreen keypad with the access code associated with your home key.
Using the touchscreen keypad with any other access codes stored in the lock.
Using the backup key.
