Yes, our standard Schlage reader can read PIV-I cards. The "I" in PIV-I stands for interoperable. These are PIV cards that are not issued by the government and they are programmed as such by government approved suppliers. They are usually distributed to non-government employees such has contractors who work in some government capacities. Side by side, there are no markings that would indicate which is which.
PIV-I cards are encoded using certain start sentinals that indicate them as PIV-I cards. When the Schlage reader detects a PIV-I card, it will output a 128-bit GUID (Global UID) or UUID (Universal UID) which is essentially the CSN of a PIV card.
