Can doors be prepared for raceways in the factory?

Raceway availability: Optional factory installed raceways are available in doors but are not available in frames.

Preparation Info: Steelcraft installs a flexible 3/4" ID steel conduit through the door, and attach each end to metal clips that are fastened to the inside face of door skin, near the lock reinforcements and the electrical preparations in the hinge side.

  • Doors being prepped for raceways must also include optional hinge side power transfer preps:
  • The following are the optional hinge side choices for run raceway/conduit.
    1. From EPT (electrical power transfer) to lock or strike
    2. From electrical hinge (butt, continuous) to lock or strike

Recommendation: Raceways are recommended for all electrical devices except for panic exit devices.

  • Most exit devices have the wiring access through the crossbar and is connected at the hinge side of the door.
  • Steelcraft does not recommend the use of a raceway for exit devices since both EPT and electric hinge are already in the area of the hinge side box reinforcing of the panic device.

Purpose: Factory installed raceways allow for the field installation of wires intended to power electrical hardware

Fire Ratings: Raceways are available on fire rated doors.
