Can a thumbturn cylinder be used in place of the thumbturn on the L9000 series?

Although it is not recommended to use a thumbturn cylinder on a L9000 function that uses a regular thumbturn, consideration should be given to the following if a thumbturn cylinder is desired to be used.

  • Non handed thumbturn cylinders (like the 09-900) when used on L9000 functions that have a regular thumbturn, can be “overridden” by the key outside to unlock (or lock the lock) if the thumbturn cylinder is not returned to the normal or “home” position.
  • Non handed thumbturn cylinders when used on L9000 functions that have a regular thumbturn can cause binding if the thumbturn cylinder is deliberately held while not in the normal or “home” position.
  • Handed thumbturn cylinders when used on L9000 functions that have a regular thumbturn, can cause binding when not returned to the normal or “home” position.
  • L9453 operation will be affected since the thumbturn hub is what provides the special function (requiring additional 20° rotation to unlock outside lever). A thumbturn cylinder will not provide the extra rotation needed.
