Can a MU-Series frame be converted to DW/K-Series frame?

Yes, a MU-Series frame can be converted to either a DW-Series or a K-Series frame as follows:

  1. Toward the top of each jamb (jamb depths 3 ¼” thru 9”), drill a 3/8" diameter hole in the centerline of the jamb soffit 5 3/8" down from the top edge of the jamb soffit. Jamb depths over 9" should be ordered directly from the factory.
  2. Remove all burrs from the drilled hole if required.
  3. On the inside surface of the soffit, locate each compression anchor so that the head of the adjusting screw is centered in the hole which was just drilled.
  4. Weld in a compression anchor to each jambs.
  5. Repair all grind and weld marks. Re-prime paint the jambs as required
  6. Provide proper base anchor clip for DW installation or drill a hole for K installation.
  7. All parts are available in package quantity from the parts section of the price manual.

The MU series frame not only has the same profile as the DW and K series frame, it also has the same die miter corners at the head and jambs. The jambs have the same corner clips welded in and base anchor attaching plate.
