After installing a classroom deadbolt, there is potential for the thumbturn to project the bolt only, get stuck in one position, or move both directions but not move the bolt. These are caused from common installation errors and may be resolved by verifying the following steps:
Step 1: Verify that the bolt is projected before installing the thumbturn.
Step 2: Verify that the driver orientation on thumbturn is correct (this step mainly applies to the B663 see here since the B563 driver is staked on). Both however, should point to the top of the turn.
Step 3: Install thumbturn. Make sure top of thumbturn is pointing towards door edge.
Step 4: Time tailpiece with deadbolt and install cylinder see here.
