Are steel stiffeners required in all door constructions?

No, steel stiffeners are not required in Hollow Metal doors, they are one of many optional core available.

  1. Per ANSI/SDI A250.8 and ANSI/HMMA 867, core construction are optional offerings by door manufacture and typically are requested by the architect or end user as preferences.
  2. When you use a laminated core, like honeycomb or polystyrene the steel stiffeners are not required.
  3. Some manufacturers still use an vertical end channel required by their construction.
  4. Steelcraft doors do not require vertical end channels since the edge of the door includes a full height mechanical interlock.
