Are linear power supplies better to use with Schlage readers?
In both lab testing and testing performed at customer sites, some minor issues with reader performance has been detected when using a switching DC power supply. This is because switching supplies switch frequencies at or around our 125kHz proximity frequency. Although it will be very minimal, it could affect read range. Using a Linear DC regulator on the other hand, it did not impact our reader performance and the frequency showed to be very stable. With Schlage, we’ve had this pop up at least once and when the customer switched to a linear supply, the readers worked flawlessly. This is also why our competitors also specify Linear DC supplies.
