Are astragals required on fire doors?

Astragals are required on:

  1. 3 hour fire rated pairs:
    • Double doors - swinging in the same direction
    • Double Egress - swinging in opposite directions
  2. Fire rated Dutch Doors
  3. Fire rated 1 3/4" thick Flush Transom Panels when used in Transom Frame without Transom bar. 

All other openings or due to hardware application astragals are not used and/or required.

Steelcraft offers as standard a 'Z' astragal mounted on inactive leaf. optional astragals include 'Z' mounted on active leaf, flat bar astragal mounted on pull side or push side. All astragals are fabricated from 14 gage material.
