What's the difference between Apple Homekit and Schlage System?

When attempting to pair a Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt or Schlage Encode Plus to the Schlage Home app, you are given an option of how you want to set up the lock. The options are listed below:

Apple HomeKit - HomeKit is Apple's home automation service. It is used to have multiple HomeKit devices set up and paired with each other. You can create certain automations and scenes where the HomeKit devices work together such as, Lock After Door Closes and Lock When Leaving Home. HomeKit is an Apple exclusive service; therefore, Android users cannot control the lock if it has been set up using HomeKit. The Schlage locks would be associated with your iCloud account. To control the lock remotely, you require a compatible Apple TV or a Homepod. Either device is required to be within 30 feet of the lock to ensure connectivity (sold separately).

  • Requires iPhone/iPad 
  • Requires compatible Apple TV, HomePod, or HomePod Mini.
  • Allows use of Schlage Home app and HomeKit app
  • Siri will also work with this setup, but not Alexa
  • Can be set up with Schlage Home Account or Apple ID account
  • Access can only be shared with another iPhone using the HomeKit users tab

Schlage System - Schlage System is our proprietary service where your lock and its data are stored on our servers. Both Android and iOS users are capable of controlling the lock using the Schlage Home app if the lock is set up using Schlage System. To control the Schlage Sense lock remotely when setting the lock up using Schlage System, you are required to pair the lock with a Schlage Sense WiFi Adapter (BR400) (sold separately).

  • Can use either Android or iPhone
  • Requires Schlage Sense WiFi Adapter (BR400) for WiFi capability
  • Allows use of only the Schlage Home app
  • Alexa will work with this set-up (Requires BR400)
  • Requires Schlage Home account
  • Access can be shared with anyone who has a Schlage account
