All Allegion ISO-format (thin) cards are made of a composite material as of July 2011.
Cards prior to July 2011 had to be specifically ordered as composite, otherwise they would come as PVC plastic.
There is no functional difference in the material, but durability is a factor.
-PVC cards are prone to heat and warping at relatively low temperatures. This means that a hot card printer could damage the card.
-Composite cards are less prone to heat, and much higher temperatures are required for warping to occur.
