Why are the Schlage commercial keys manufactured from nickel silver?

The primary benefit to the customer of using nickel silver rather than brass for our keys is that they wear better than brass thus improving the performance and longevity.  Some brass keys are plated, but when the key is cut the plating is removed so it no longer provides any wear protection in the areas that need it the most.
