What could cause the fuse to blow in a PS873 power supply?

Following could cause the fuse to blow in Von Duprin PS873 power supply.

  • PS873 power supply provides 2AMP at 24VDC or 4AMP at 12VDC. If this limit is exceeded the fuse will blow in the power supply (Load is more than 2AMP at 24VDC or more than 4AMP at 12VDC).
  • The fuse may blow if wrong size fuse was installed in the power supply. 4AMP slow blow fuse is required for PS873 power supply.
  • Fuse will blow if output of the power supply is shorted or grounded. Remove load from the power supply and check the fuse.
  • Defective potted module inside the EL device causes the PS873 power supply fuse to blow. Unplug the potted module from EL solenoid and repeat the test without EL solenoid.
  • The fuse may blow if power supply is providing more than 26.4VDC output.
