What are the standard hinge and lock spacing for doors and frames?

Resolution:

Hinge Spacing: All 4 1/2" and 5" butt hinge spacing

1. Opening heights 3'0" through 4'11 15/16" (one pair butt hinges)

• from under head CL 9 3/4" (top of door 9 5/8")
• from bottom of frame CL 10 3/8" (bottom of door 9 5/8")

2. Opening heights 5'0" through 7'6" (one and one half pair butt hinges)

• from under head CL 9 3/4" (top of door 9 5/8")
• from bottom of frame CL 10 3/8" (bottom of door 9 5/8")
• center hinge is equally spaced between top and bottom

3. Opening heights 7'6 1/16" through 10'0" (two pair butt hinges)

• from under head CL 9 3/4" (top of door 9 5/8")
• from bottom of frame CL 10 3/8" (bottom of door 9 5/8") due to the the fractional calculations the bottom hinge CL may vary plus or minus 1/64"
• center two hinges are equally spaced between top and bottom

Hinge Backset:

• On the frame = 5/16"
• On the door = 1/4"

Lock Spacing: All standard bored locks ANSI 115.2 (161, 61L type), for mortise lock ANSI 115.1 (86 type) all locations must be altered 3/8" lower, and standard strike (ASA type).

1. Opening heights 3'0" through 4'11 15/16"

• centered in door height (not frame)
• example: 3'2" height; frame 38", door net 37 1/8"; lock CL from top of door 18 9/16"; strike CL from under head 18 11/16"

2. Opening heights 5'0" through 10'0"

• CL strike (ASA type) 40 5/16" from bottom of frame
• CL ANSI 115.2 (161, 61L type) 39 9/16" from bottom of door.
• CL ANSI 115.1 (86 type) 39 3/16" from bottom of door.
