How does an outside trim operate with a Chexit device?

FOR RIM, VERTICAL ROD, AND VERTICAL CABLE DEVICES:

The Chexit must be disarmed before a trim key, thumbpiece, knob, thumbturn, or lever (including electric lever) can be operated (rotated).

FOR MORTISE LOCK DEVICES:

The Chexit does not have to be disarmed before a trim key, thumbpiece, knob, or lever (including electric lever) can operate. However, it is still recommended that the Chexit be disarmed in order to avoid triggering the Chexit alarm due to the presence of a Door Position Switch (DPS) or the inadvertent bumping of the push bar.
