If I am using the PT790 transformer to power the Guard-X 2670, is it required to install the 9V battery?

On the PT790 transformer cable, which way do I install it to the circuit board? Which wire is Ground?
As of April 2017, the red wire is Ground. When installing the connector to the Guard-X 2670 circuit board, the red wire should face toward the circuit board....
