Why would an EL 98/99 solenoid get hot?

If voltage going into the solenoid is much higher than 24VDC it could cause the solenoid to get hot.

Check the power supply output voltage to confirm.

If the holding coil on EL solenoid is shorted out it could cause the solenoid to get hot.

The holding coil resistance on EL98/99 solenoid should be 98-120 ohm.
