Why will 912L not retract the latch bolt all the way?

There are a few things to check in the 912L trim is not retracting the latch  as expected. 

• If the 912L was shipped after February 28,  2011, Check the installation instructions, step 3 to be sure all parts are installed on the trim correctly, even if the trim was received in the proper hand.  
   
• If the 912L is used with a rim device, check to make sure device template was correctly followed. 
  The 912L does not retract the latch bolt all the way into the case.  It will be out about 1/16" which will still clear the strike if the template was followed.  If the template was not followed exactly,  correct the installation. 
   
• Check tail piece length.  If door is less than  1 3/4", it is possible the tailpiece on the trim will project too far into the case and cause an issue with the latch retracting (applies to devices shipped any time).
