When do you need to use the Fire Rated 8402 kickplate instead of the 8400?

If the top of the plate is 16 inches or less above the bottom of the door, the plate is not required to be labeled.  Field installed plates larger than that must be labeled.  The other option is factory-installed plates.  Some distributors and door shops are approved UL shops and may qualify for "factory installed".  (Per NFPA 80 2007 section 6.4.5)
