What is a setup key?

A setup key is an Everest key that has had the upper half of the blade removed.

  • A setup key is used when pinning a cylinder to hold the check pin in place.  If a setup key is not used, then the check pin must be manually held in the cylinder.  
  • A setup key can also be used during the process of shimming a plug to assist with plug removal.
