What does AVB mean in a closer and which closers are available with this option?

AVB stands for Advanced Variable Backcheck. It is a cylinder option when ordering a 4111 closer (without an ST) that allows backcheck to start at about 45 degrees instead of the normal 75 degrees.

  • The 4010 and 4020 are available with AVB, but must be ordered by ST-2997.
  • The 4010 is available with AVB and the heavy duty 4510 arm, but must be ordered by ST-2337.
  • AVB is not available on the 4040, 4030, 4210, 4510 or any track style closers.

The only visual indication for an AVB cylinder is a "Drill Point " recess in the cylinder casting boss (flat area on closer body) across from the Latch Speed regulation valve.

AVB and Delayed Action functions are not available in the same cylinder. The cylinder cannot be ported for both of these functions.
