What astragals are available?

Types of astragal offered from Steelcraft are as follows:

  1. "Z" Astragal - For information on "Z" astragal types and attachment refer to the TD Manual page 3.3.17.
    • Most commonly used on double doors
    • Attachment - screw attached to the edge of the door
    • Required on 3 hour fire rated doors
    • For information on "Z" astragal types and attachment refer to the following TD Manual:
      • Active leaf attachment - page 3.3.17.
      • Inactive leaf attachment - page 3.3.18.
      • Double Egress - page 3.3.19.
  2. 2-Piece Astragal - For information on "Z" astragal types and attachment refer to the TD Manual page 3.3.17 which can be viewed
    • Used by several distributors on double doors
    • Attachment:
      • Active Leaf - screw attached on the face of the active door
      • Inactive leaf - screw attached to the edge of the inactive door

  3. Flat Plate Astragal -
    • Can be used on double doors and double egress doors
    • Attachment - Screw attached or welded on the face of the door
    • Required on:
      • The top leaf of fire rated dutch doors
      • 1 3/4" thick Flush Transom Panel when used in transom frame without transom bar.

Other types of astragals supplied by others:

  1. Weather Seal Astragal:
    • Used on double doors as weather, smoke or sound seals
    • Attachment - field attached per the manufacturer's instructions
    • Considered a hardware item
    • Not supplied with the doors
