Can an auto operator be installed on a Dutch door?

Yes, an automatic operator can be installed on a Dutch door.

  1. The operator must be installed on the top leaf of the Dutch door.
  2. Only the top half will open unless the top and bottom leaves (sections) are interlocked.
  3. Interlocking the top and bottom leaves together can be accomplished by:
    • Surface Bolt - for non fire rated applications
    • Approved latch set - required for fire rated applications
  4. When both leaves are interlocked the Dutch Door will operate as a typical single door with an auto operator installed.

Auto Operators installed on Dutch Doors is not a common application and may be found in Day Care or Health Care facilities where the door is required to function as typical door opening with an operator, but at times just open the top half of the Dutch Door.
